How to keep your van secure and safe

0 0

Van security is important to protect your property and your business. Tool thefts are on the up, so it is important to do all you can to maintain and improve the safety of your van. The following four tips are a starting point to help with this.

1. Lock things up

Always make sure your van is locked and the windows closed when it is unattended. You may want to consider changing the original locks to something that criminals are less familiar with; what’s more, after searching ‘used vans for sale near me’ and buying from dealers such as Cotswold Van Centre, think about changing your used van locks so you can be sure someone else doesn’t have a key.

You may want to opt for hook locks, which make doors more difficult to prise open, or robust locks that will better resist the likes of crowbars. Anti-pick and anti-drill locks are available to combat screwdrivers.

2. Add extra locks

Extra locks can add another level of security to your van. Some will ensure your van is locked as soon as the doors are shut, so make sure you keep your keys with you. Deadlocks can be fitted between the door panel and door, offering added security if your van is left unattended for long periods.

3. Think tools

Tool thefts are rife. If you usually keep your tools in your van, remove them when your van is unattended if possible and use signage stating that tools are removed. If tools are left, keep them out of sight. Use covering or tinted windows, and consider a lockable vault bolted to your van’s floor. Security cable can also be used to secure expensive tools to the van’s interior, and you can mark tools using an etching or UV pen so that stolen goods can be traced back.

4. Park wisely

Park your van in well-lit, well-populated areas with CCTV if possible. Consider using secure car parks and always park with the doors near a wall if you can.
