These are the easiest knitting projects for beginners to try

0 0

When you’re new to knitting, it makes sense to try some beginner projects so that you can get to grips with your new needles, perfect your techniques and build confidence quickly. If you try to do an advanced project too quickly, you run the risk of making errors and getting disheartened. Therefore, it is practical to start small and build upwards as you grow in confidence and competence. So, what are some good projects to try?

Think about your materials

Before you make a decision about which knitting projects to move ahead with, consider the yarn that you are using.

For example, if you are working with chunky yarn then you will need projects that make use of the volume of this yarn. It will affect the types of needles that you use – if you use them at all! You can actually finger-knit with chunky yarn. A good project to try with chunky yarn could be a simple blanket with basic stitches.

If you are using regular yarn, then you could make basic squares which you stitch together to make a check blanket or a long scarf. You can practice knitting with different colours to see the finished effect with colour theory incorporated, or simply have fun experimenting at this stage to see what looks good to you.

Always try to knit with quality yarn from a provider such as Wool Couture, as this will also affect the finished product.

Other knitting projects for beginners

The best knitting projects for beginners are the ones that inspire you! Don’t try items such as gloves or socks at this stage, but work on articles such as teapot cosies, little blankets or knitted cushion covers (with sections that can later be stitched together to form the envelope shape).

You could try to knit a little purse or bag, or knitted boot cuffs which look amazing for winter. Other cute projects include a knitted headband, tree decoration or bookmark, and these are all great for gifting as well. What will you knit for your first project?
