How to get more in tune with your body

Your body is speaking to you constantly, but we often choose to ignore what it’s trying to tell us. Your physical body is the interface with which you interact with the world around you and it can be an incredible tool. It can let you know what’s good for your health and what’s not. Learning to communicate with your body is one of the best ways to take care of your health and mental well-being. Here are some ways to do that more effectively:

  1. Get rest when you feel tired

It’s too easy to keep going, even when our bodies are telling us we’re tired. We’re so used to being on the go all the time that we often neglect the signs of feeling run down or burnt out. Taking just a few moments to rest, focus on your breathing and relax can help you to reconnect with the communication between your brain and your body.

  1. Eat when you feel hungry

This sounds too obvious to be considered but how many times to we actually do it? Often in our busy lives we eat on a schedule that might not fit with what our bodies are telling us. Alternatively, we ignore our hunger because we’re too busy. Try to tune into eating when your body tells you to and finish eating when you feel satisfied.

  1. Don’t ignore things that don’t feel right

Mild symptoms or unusual lumps and bumps are easy to ignore when we’re busy and aren’t suffering too much. However, leaving things that aren’t quite right can soon become more serious problems. Know your body and deal with anything that doesn’t feel right as soon as you spot it. Your body has clever ways of telling you things, so stay in tune with it for the benefit of your health. For example, many STIs have little or no symptoms but if in doubt, you can get checked out very quickly and privately with an STI test London from www.checkurself.org.uk/plus

  1. Exercise

When we experience stress, movement and exercise can greatly help us. From our ancient past of being hunter-gatherers, we developed two hormones called adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones use stored glucose in muscles and sends them to the bloodstream, providing a surge of energy. This energy helped us either to fight or escape in times of danger. This same process that served us so well in the past can now manifest itself in any situation, such as trying to get to sleep or sitting at our desks at work. When adrenaline is not burned off, it can harm our bodies, lowering immunity and slowing down our metabolism.

Stress that isn’t managed can lead to depression, weight gain and extreme anxiety. When you feel stressed, go for a run or play some sports to help manage some of these ancient hormonal reactions.

  1. Get outdoors

You are more a part of nature than you realise, and you are intimately connected to the physical world surrounding you. You are made of the same elements that are affected by the cycles and rhythms of the earth. Connecting with nature by getting outside can greatly help your body. Go for a walk in the woods or dip your toes into the sea. Whatever you enjoy, just be sure to reconnect with nature.

Taking a walk in the green and pleasant county.

It is, finally, getting to that time of year when we can get out the walking boots and shrug off the winter coats and get out the waterproof lighter coats. The Sun might be starting to shine a bit more, and casting a warm glow through the trees of an early evening, but you can also rely on the mist to be rising and creating great countryside scenes. What better county is there in Great Britain for such a thing than Gloucestershire. It has amazing countryside views so much so that you’ll be giving Estate Agents Gloucester based company TGRES a call to book an appointment. There are two main brillant walks in the county and these are.

The Cotswold Way. This starts in Bath and winds its way up through the county all the way to Chipping Camden in Oxfordshire. It takes in an enormous amount of the county and you can truly appreciate the woodlands, fields and rugged escarpment of the Cotswolds. Not only that, the natural features of the Way are punctuated by the most picturesque villages and towns that you ‘ll ever wish to see, plus they provide the perfect pit stops or stopovers along the way like Wotton Under Edge, Wincombe and Painswick. There are also the summits of Painswick Beacon giving you panoramic views of the surrounding countryside even up to Wales and the Malverns. It is one of the few routes that you can see examples of our very ancient past as it takes into account long barrows and round barrows such as Hetty Peglers Tump (yes, it is really called that) and Belas Knap long barrow. Don’t worry there are some of the best pubs in existence on the way too.

The Gloucestershire Way. This is a bit of a rival to the Cotswold way in terms of the grit you’ll need to do it, especially as it’s one hundred miles long. It starts in the stunning surroundings of Chepstow castle at the south end of the Wye Valley. It is a bit of an “upsy” route as it goes up into the majesty of the Forest of Dean ending the first stage at Parkend then onto May Hill which gives commanding views of the County. This then descends into the counties capital Gloucester and out and up (again) to Crickley hill where it crosses the Cotswold way. It goes on to Stow on the Wold taking in some of the most stunning North Cotswold areas before coming back on itself to end at Worcester.

When it comes to high impact sports such as boxing, injuries are incredibly common and come with the territory. These injuries can range from teeth being knocked out that then perhaps need Immediate Implant Cardiff way or wherever the match is taking place, through to broken bones and concussions.

Some of the most common boxing injuries include:

Shoulder Impingement – this can occur when the shoulder joint is repeatedly hit and the acromion, which is the bone that covers the shoulder joint is impacted upon. The muscles in this area become weakened and damage can occur to the ligaments in the area. This can cause pain when the arm is moved, especially when it is raised to shoulder height. It can be difficult to try and avoid being hit in this area by an opponent but ensuring that you stretch this area of the body effectively before you begin a match or sparring practice will help to warm up the muscles and ligaments, helping to prevent some damage from occurring.

Trigger Finger – this is when the fingers get locked into a trigger position and occurs from having the hands clenched into a fist for long periods of time during matches and training. The fingers affected will eventually release but this can be incredibly painful. One of the best ways to help with these kinds of symptoms is to ensure that you soak your hands in warm water following a match or training sessions and to also stretch your fingers out from the fist shaped position during your workout and training.

Boxer’s Fracture – this occurs in the fingers and the bones in the fleshy part of the hand and usually appears in beginners and amateur boxers as they learn how to punch correctly. The only way to prevent this from happening is to practice your boxing technique and ensure that it is the knuckle of your middle finger that is the first one to connect when you punch an item or a person. Having a strong calcium intake can also help to strengthen your bones meaning injuries can become less likely to occur in the first place.

Cuts and Lacerations – these are almost an inevitability of taking part in boxing and occur usually as a result of a high impact punch that happens on an area of the body where the skin is very close to the body area and a common area for this to happen is around the eye socket. One of the best ways to try and avoid the severity of these cuts and lacerations is to perfect your blockign and ducking techique to ry and reduce the amount of times that a connection from a punch from the opponent occurs. Keeping your skin moisturised can also help as dry and dehydrated skin is more likely to split upon an impact.
