0 It is, finally, getting to that time of year when we can get out the walking boots and shrug off the winter coats and get out the waterproof lighter coats. The Sun might be starting to shine a bit more, and casting a warm glow through the trees of an early evening, but you can also rely on the mist to be rising and creating great countryside scenes. What better county is there in Great Britain for such a thing than Gloucestershire. It has amazing countryside views so much so that you’ll be giving Estate Agents Gloucester based company TGRES a call to book an appointment. There are two main brillant walks in the county and these are.
The Cotswold Way. This starts in Bath and winds its way up through the county all the way to Chipping Camden in Oxfordshire. It takes in an enormous amount of the county and you can truly appreciate the woodlands, fields and rugged escarpment of the Cotswolds. Not only that, the natural features of the Way are punctuated by the most picturesque villages and towns that you ‘ll ever wish to see, plus they provide the perfect pit stops or stopovers along the way like Wotton Under Edge, Wincombe and Painswick. There are also the summits of Painswick Beacon giving you panoramic views of the surrounding countryside even up to Wales and the Malverns. It is one of the few routes that you can see examples of our very ancient past as it takes into account long barrows and round barrows such as Hetty Peglers Tump (yes, it is really called that) and Belas Knap long barrow. Don’t worry there are some of the best pubs in existence on the way too.
The Gloucestershire Way. This is a bit of a rival to the Cotswold way in terms of the grit you’ll need to do it, especially as it’s one hundred miles long. It starts in the stunning surroundings of Chepstow castle at the south end of the Wye Valley. It is a bit of an “upsy” route as it goes up into the majesty of the Forest of Dean ending the first stage at Parkend then onto May Hill which gives commanding views of the County. This then descends into the counties capital Gloucester and out and up (again) to Crickley hill where it crosses the Cotswold way. It goes on to Stow on the Wold taking in some of the most stunning North Cotswold areas before coming back on itself to end at Worcester.
