How to Increase the Privacy in Your Yard

0 0

The summertime is a great time to spend some quality time with your family outside in the backyard. If you live in a suburban community, it may be wonderful to have neighbors sometimes, but there are other times when you just want a little bit of privacy with your family. If you want your neighbors over you can invite them, but sometimes you just don’t want to give them the impression that they have an open invitation. Or in some cases, you may not want to feel obligated to socialize with them when they’re spending time outside. Whatever your reason, there are a few ways that you can increase the privacy in your yard.

  1. Plant hedges. One of the best ways to gain privacy is with some nice, thick hedges. If you keep them trimmed regularly, they can often look much nicer than a tall fence, plus they reduce a lot of sound emission and will help to keep your house cool during the hot summer months and warm during the cold winter months.
  2. Install a patio cover. If you have a nice outdoor patio, there’s a good chance that you’re going to want some kind of patio cover. This will help to provide a source of shade and privacy in your backyard. If your next door neighbors live in a two or three story house, then it’s very likely that at least one of their upstairs windows looks over your backyard. If so, you want to build your patio cover in such a way that it blocks their view from that window.
  3. Install outdoor speakers. Sometimes you want to be able to have friends or colleagues over and have a few laughs and drinks by the pool. However, it can feel very awkward if you know that your neighbors can hear everything you’re saying. That’s why it can be so great to install outdoor speakers. You can create a cool ambiance for your guests and play your music just loud enough so that it muffles everyone’s voices without disturbing the peace.
  4. Install an awning. These days a lot of awnings are mechanical and can be rolled out or in, depending on the weather. You can roll it out during the hottest hours of the day and then roll it in to collect those last few rays before sunset. Sometimes a homeowner’s association will not want to approve a permanent awning, but if you’re only using it on occasion, the roll out awning is a good compromise.
  5. Install a privacy fence. In the end, you may just need to install a tall, sturdy fence around your backyard. You can choose from a wide selection of styles and material with Ram Fence Company to find something that really works with the aesthetic of your home. It may seem like a big investment, but you’ll be glad when you feel free to be yourself in the privacy of your own backyard.
