And there the beautiful churches of the city and putting their noses in many museums, perhaps choosing among those who organize workshops and activities for children and their parents. Here are some tips for visit Florence with the kids on a weekend.
First day: exploration on foot of the city
As we said, the center of Florence easily turns on foot, even with children. You can start from the Central Station, going to visit the beautiful church of Santa Maria Novella, which houses the Trinità di, Masaccio . From there it starts in the direction of the heart of the city, the square that houses the Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Baptistery and Giotto’s bell tower, almost 85 meters high.
From here you can continue towards Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio, where you usually are organized tours for children of all ages from ‘ Mus.e Association. The Mus.e is the reference point for any family on holiday in Florence: it is here that most of the workshops and activities for children in the city’s institutions are concentrated. If time advances, it is worth going on to Piazza Santa Croce, and here maybe stop for a dinner. It is one of the best tips for Weekend in Florence with children.
Second day: Uffizi and relax
There is no visit to Florence that can do without the splendid heritage of the Uffizi. The museum is immense, so it is good to plan carefully a visit with the little ones so that they do not get tired too much. In a few hours, however, you can see many beautiful works. Do not miss, for example, the Madonna and Child enthroned, angels and saints (Majesty of Ognissanti) by Giotto; the Bacchus of Caravaggio; the Birth of Venus by Botticelli and, for the less emotional children, Judith who beheads Holofernes by Artemisia Gentileschi. To combine teaching and play, do not miss the activities for children periodically organized by the museum.
After this full cultural immersion, it’s time for some relaxation. Passing through the Ponte Vecchio (another unmissable stop for a tourist in Florence), you can reach the beautiful Boboli Gardens, where you can relax a little in the green admiring – even here – the works of art all around, from Palazzo Pitti to Caves in the park , first of all the Grotta del Buontalenti . Third day: David and playful tours
Another must-see in a Florentine tour is the Accademia Gallery, famous in particular for hosting one of the most famous sculptures in the world, Michelangelo’s David. Here children aged 6 to 12 can take a route designed especially for them, accompanied by a special audio guide (available in five different languages).
The day can then be concluded with one of the fun visits organized by the Mammacult association, which takes care of imagining guided tours to discover the city suitable for children, perhaps in the form of a treasure hunt. Or a discovery off antastic animals. And then, after so much culture, the perfect prize for our children can be a wooden game of the historic Bartolucci shop, in Borgo dei Greci.
Otherwise, you can opt for a trip to Piazzale Michelangelo to admire the city from dusk to sunset: you can also get there on foot, climbing the monumental stairways called Rampe del Poggi from Piazza Poggi in the district of San Niccolo.
